HON (MRS.) MOJISOLA BADMUS,A WOMAN OF DISTINCTION

    Hon (Mrs.) Mojisola Badmus, is a woman of distinction with difference. She is an embodiment of diligence, dedication, hard-work, perseverance and focus which has make her inspirational woman and a role model worthy emulating by the young ladies.

Can we meet you ma?

My name is Hon.(Mrs.) Mojisola Badmus, the Executive Vice-Chairman  of Igando – Ikotun LCDA. Am also the supervisor for works of the LCDA.

Let have insight about your educational background.

 I commenced my primary school at Coker Primary School, Surulere, Lagos State. I proceeded to Tolonbi   Secondary School, Surulere Lagos State. I had diploma in law from Kwara  State Polytechnic, Ilorin; I have Bsc  in Bank and Finance from Lagos State University,Ojoo . For my love to acquire more knowledge, I went back to Lagos State University, Ojoo for my MBA where I specialized in Management. Am still hoping to commence my Ph.D soonest by God’s grace.

As a Vice- Chairman of Igando-Ikotun LCDA,how did you find yourself in politics?

To be candid, I was born into politics. My father late Jimoh Adio Balogun was a renowned politician. Loved by his people in Lagos. I grew up  to know my father as an excellent  and cheerful giver. Then,  I saw people gathered in our house and I would ask my father that why these numerous people always gather in our house. His response was that, it was about government and  about development of  our nation. He was a grass root politician especially in Surulere community. As I was growing up, I had in me how to make positive impact in the society and how I will be putting smile in people’s faces. I think the best way to give back to the society is by joining politics.

As a woman of distinction, what keeps you soaring in life?

Passion to serve humility. I believe that passion and determination is very vital in life and it contribute to success. If you have passion for what you’re doing, sky is the stepping stone. When I was growing up, my mentor,  late chief M.K.O Abiola was the pillar of sports in Africa, he had the similar traits of my late father. They were both excellent givers, because they wanted people to be in happy mood always. This has also been in my mind that I would be a philanthropist  that anyone  path in my way will  never remain the same for positive.

Who has been your professional inspiration?

 My father! He was very hardworking being. He never believe in negative. He believed that  once you dream it, you can achieve it. He never gives no for an  answer because “NO” was not in his dictionary. He was a goal getter. He started from humble beginning to achieve what he achieved before his demise. Up till date; despite that he is no more, in Surulere, his legacies are still there. People still remember his name because of his positive impact in the Surulere community. I always tell myself I want to surpass his achievements and I am on the track.

What was your greatest advice you have ever received and by who?

The greatest advice ever received then was that there is success everywhere and there is no short cut to success but through determination and hardwork. I once asked my father that he should advise me on which profession I can engage myself into, that will make me  hallmark. His response was that all professions are  good but the best is what makes you outstanding in the profession. My father thought me to be industrious, determine, persistence, consistence.  He said, if I have all these, success is sure.

As a mother and Vice-Chairman of Igando-Ikotun LCDA, how do you balance office works and home affairs that one does not affects  each other?

Laugh! I have been asked this question numerous times. It’s passion, zeal and determination. As a mother, you want to be successful and as a humanitarian, you also want to contribute your quota to the society and have impact in the community. You know what is on your table. Just like a student that want to gain admission into higher institution, he\she must pass both Mathematics and English language as we know that  both subjects are parallel subjects, but the student must prepare  very well and pass them. I know how to balance the two together and God is really helping me.

What is the biggest lesson you have learnt that you think is advisable  to others?

The biggest lesson  I have ever learnt in my life is that hardwork does not kill but pays. Hardwork is actually lacking in our community today especially among the youths. They want to be over  night Dangote. They have forgotten that with hard work, Persistence, tolerance, determination and consistence, the sky is the stepping stone for them. For example, when I newly Joined politics, I was very active in all political activities of my local government especially the critical aspect when people used to avoid or run away from. Before I became executive Vice – Chairman of Igando-Ikotun LCDA, it was not  an easy task. There was storm but I overcame because of my participations in the party. So hard work really pays and prepare you ahead for the future. There was a time I was vouching for the position of a local government councilor, I was denied but I never lose hope. I continued with my participation in grass root politics. Thank God where  I am  today.

As a woman of distinction that is closer to the people and your schedule is very tight, how do you relax?

To be sincere, if you really love what you’re doing, there will not be tension and you will not be frustrated. Even in the  midst of your  tight schedule, despite you love and appreciate what you are doing, you will be over the moon because you are adding positive value to the people. So you will feel relax.

What is your philosophy of life?

What goes around comes around. If you believe that, there will not be a room for laziness in your life. I believe that whatever I do to the people or community. I also do it to myself

How do you develop yourself as a leader?

Asa leader, I develop my followers because there is nothing to lead if you do not have adequate and loyal  followers. As a leader, you must lead by examples. I make them know that they can be better than me because I am always in cloud nine whenever I see my followers achieving greatness.

As a leader that has men as her  subordinates, tell us your resistance experience whenever you are leading them.

Both men and woman especially in Africa loves to resist changes. We hardly adapt to new development because we believes that new policy or development is a punishment to us. As a leader, you must always show your subordinates love. Let them feel important. you must not be a dictator. You must give a room for subordinates’  suggestions in office as they says “two good heads are better than one”. It is just that as a leader I understand my subordinates very well especially, the men. The men I have here are very supporting and understanding. Infact, they makes my job easier. Once again, they are super-fantastic.

How is your working relationship with the executive Chairman of Igando- Ikotun LCDA Comrade Lasisi Akinsanya and his Excellence, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-olu the Executive Governor of Lagos state?

Excellent! From the day we were swore in. I make up my mind that as executive Vice-Chairman of Igando-Ikotun LCDA, I will make sure I write my name with gold by supporting the administration of Comrade Lasisi Akinsanya. I appreciate him for giving me the chance and the privilege in his administration. He doesn’t look down on anyone. He is a  very hardworking person that always give room for  suggestion. We works  as a team in order to achieve our aims and objectives. For governor Babajide Sanwo-olu, working with him is an honor. He is a very kind hearted man. He loves the grass root mobilizers.

As a Vice-Chairman of Igando- Ikotun LCDA, what are your plans for young ladies empowerment?

We have been doing that and we will never relent in empowering our young ladies because they are the mothers of tomorrow. Before I became the vice-chairperson, I have empowered numerous women via my NGO (BMA). We train them to be self-reliance. We also organizes seminar in which we tell them that they are not in this world to be spectators but to add values to the society. I believe that once a lady has being trained and empower, you have trained and empower a nation.

What advice would you give to young ladies who are looking up to a role model like you? 

My advice for them is that they should believe in  God and themselves. They should shun drugs and prostitution.  They should determine to be successful. Rome was not built in a day. Slow and steady wins the race
