The October international break is now in its second week, which means that for those not involved with their respective national teams, it was time to return to training at Cobham and begin preparations for the trip to Anfield on Sunday.
And there was truly a sight for sore eyes yesterday, as among those making an appearance out on the grass was none other than Reece James! Look, there he is, an actual participant in “full training”, as confirmed by the official website! “More than just a footballer”, but also still a footballer!
Reecey’s latest hamstring injury, suffered during preseason training, has seen him miss the entire start of the season. He was initially expected to return last month, but that return was pushed back indefinitely, without a specific timetable put on it, perhaps to take some pressure off the situation and the player himself.
Given that the 24-year-old has practically not had a preseason let alone any match action, we probably shouldn’t expect him back in action for some time yet. Chelsea have been very careful with this injury, and I suspect we will continue to take our time — especially as Malo Gusto has been deputizing very well in the league, and we’ve managed to get by with a by-committee approach in the cups.
Hopefully when the Captain does return to action, he will do so for a nice long healthy and fit spell.
